Biopsy punches are hollow and circular scalpels used to cut a lesion on the skin. It is used to help to check for certain skin conditions that can be caused. It’s also used for checking cervical cancer as well.

For a punch biopsy, small sections of the deeper layers of the skin are removed. Excisional biopsy the entire area of skin that appears infected is removed. You are most likely to receive a stitch close to the site of the biopsy.

Biopsy punch sizes range from 2-8 mm, for most sample sizes a 6mm punch is used. The colour and Q sizes are marked on each punch pack for ease of identification

The process of using a dermatoscope is called dermatoscopy. To start with the process the medical personnel will apply a little gel, alcohol or water to the patient’s skin and then turn on the light on the device. 
The lens is kept close to the area of skin that is being examined
