Acorn Stairlift COVID-19

COVID-19 Safety Measures & Procedures

Mediworld is 100% committed to the safety of our patrons, partners and staff. These are testing times for all of us and we want to make sure that we deliver the best possible service while maintaining the safety and welfare of everyone involved.

Acorn Stairlift Installation

If you need an Acorn Stairlift installing, we’re exploring all options to achieve this quickly and efficiently while minimizing direct face-to-face contact, including a new virtual survey of your staircase.

In either case, contact Acorn by phone or online in the first instance. If it’s necessary for someone from Acorn to visit your home in person, you can rest assured our staff will observe strict hygiene protocols. These include:

  • Avoiding any physical person-to-person contact (such as handshakes)
  • Observing social distancing – staying at least two metres from you, although in many cases you won’t even need to be in the same room
  • Regularly washing our hands and using hand sanitizer products
  • Using equipment such as disposable face masks and gloves whenever appropriate
  • Cleaning equipment and tools before and after each home visit
  • Any Acorn staff member experiencing any symptoms has been told to self-isolate immediately

Virtual Survey

If you need a new Acorn Stairlift installing in your home, the usual first step is a pre-arranged visit by your local Acorn Surveyor to measure your staircase, assess your needs and provide a comprehensive no-obligation quote. As part of our steps to combat coronavirus, we’ve introduced a new and remote ‘Virtual Survey’ process, eliminating the need for someone to visit you in person.

We’ve developed a very simple way to work with you get some basic measurements and pictures of your staircase, enabling us to determine suitability and pricing. The process is carried out using a mobile smartphone or tablet and usually takes about 20 to 30 minutes, with our stairlift expert taking you through the process in a clear, step-by-step manner. By the end we should have a full understanding of your needs and the best stairlift for you.

Items you will need for the virtual survey are a measuring tape, a pen and paper and a smartphone or tablet which can take and send photos. Our stairlift expert will explain all the measurements and pictures needed and guide you through the process.

Once all the details are ready, we will email a no-hidden-extras quote for the work. There is no obligation to proceed and we will not pressure you, but if you choose to go ahead we can schedule a time for the installation, which could be next day if urgency is paramount.

Important note: If you don’t feel comfortable taking part in a Virtual Survey for any reason, we can still carry out a home survey in the conventional manner. In this case, the Acorn Surveyor who visits your home will observe strict hygiene and social distancing protocols throughout their visit. You won’t even need to be in the same room for most of the survey process. For more advice on which type of survey will work best for you, please call or email us.

COVID-Safe Installations

If you don’t need a stairlift urgently, it makes sense to wait until the coronavirus crisis has passed. However, we recognize that some people cannot manage without a stairlift while staying at home during the crisis. For anyone whose need is urgent and compelling, Acorn Stairlifts aims to provide the same comprehensive service it always has, but with extra safeguards in place.

Although we can carry out a Virtual Survey of your staircase, it remains necessary for a skilled engineer to visit your home to install and test your new Acorn Stairlift. However, we have instigated new protocols to make this process as safe as possible during the coronavirus crisis, in line with the latest official advice.

Because Acorn is a company producing and supplying vital medical equipment, our installers and engineers are officially designated as ‘key workers’ and can continue operating during the crisis, with enhanced safeguarding precautions.

Our new safety protocols are designed to eliminate or minimize direct face-to-face contact and the risk of spreading coronavirus. They include:

  • Pre-screening every appointment to make sure no-one in the home has symptoms of coronavirus
  • Ensuring all Acorn Stairlifts employees visiting customers have no coronavirus symptoms or any known contact with anyone who has. Any employee with symptoms or contact will be taken out of service immediately
  • Calling the customer 30 minutes prior to arrival at their home – you don’t need to greet us at the door
  • Avoiding any physical person-to-person contact (such as handshakes)
  • Observing social distancing – staying at least two meters from you – although in many cases you won’t even need to be in the same room while the work is done
  • Thoroughly washing our hands and using hand sanitiser products before approaching the customer’s home
  • Using protective equipment such as disposable face masks and gloves whenever appropriate
  • Cleaning equipment and tools before and after each home visit
  • Wiping down all touch points – such as door handles, handrails, light switches and power sockets – before and after the appointment

Installing an Acorn Stairlift typically takes only around an hour for a straight staircase and a little longer for more complex staircases with curves or bends. You can stay in a different part of the house while the work is done. Our engineer will need to demonstrate the basic operation of the stairlift, but this can be done at a distance and using a face mask.
